Science has been the single most popular term in the world to define phenomena that either amaze or confuse people in general. It has grown into a cliche that people often utter, so much so that it began to lose its real meaning in life. In its very foundation, Science is all about a systematic study of nature as well as characteristic of many aspects of life in the world through observation and experiment, which involves many practices of criticism regarding the old, conventional ways of life. When Science is understood and implemented according to its real definition, I truly believe that Science can actually be the primary means to solve even the unanswered questions that mankind still wonder.
When Science is understood properly as a specific study method that involves observation and experiment, one should not doubt the existence of Science in all kinds of disciplines. In all subjects of study, thorough observation and experiment to prove the truth behind a hypothesis is necessary. Without the proper scientific method of studying the disciplines, the result of the study will not be as reliable. Hence, according to its relevant and core function, scientific method should be applied in all kinds of subjects, including the debated discipline when it comes to the discussion of Science: Religion Study. People who wish to know more about religion or spiritual matters can actually use scientific methods to understand it better. The existence of God or spiritual beings can also be learned by observing the Bible, gathering testimonies, and experiment on the values that the religion holds dear. The fact that the universe can work systematically and harmoniously to produce a life on Earth is one single result of observation and experimentation that there is truly a Superior Power beyond one’s understanding that holds everything together. There have also been several documentaries in real life about series of miracles that happened in the medical world. Science should be treated as a part of a systematic world rather than putting it into a box that is so high above the rest of the other understanding such as culture and religion. Science originally existed because of mankind’s persistent questions regarding life and God. People should stop differentiating the two and start applying them together.
In addition, other aspects of life such as finances or modeling can also benefit from Science. When the terms finances and modeling come into discussion, no one would ever think to connect them to Science. However, according to the core definition of Science, it also exists in both aspects. Without the scientific method of study in the world of finance, the financial as well as economic structure of many nations of the world would collapse, creating another Great Depression on a global scale. Without scientific method of studying, the models from all around the world would not have such quality and standard that mesmerized the whole world and inspire the people to be more creative by experimenting on new projects and ideas.
Many people who argue about Science’s relevance do not truly understand the core meaning of Science. The most common misconception about Science is that it is only perceived as the means to advance technology and the medical world. Whenever there are new inventions, people will praise Science and scientists. Whenever the topic of Science is brought up, people will immediately think about Maths and the Sciences subjects at school. If this is the common understanding of the people in general, then it is only natural that they deem that over-reliance on Science can be dangerous. They view that depending too much on Science will cause arrogance in people’s lives, creating the tendency to underestimate many things in life. Such behavior can be one’s downfall.
However, Science is not only about new inventions and medical world. It is also about a way of life and study. From this understanding comes the discipline of human sciences as well as social sciences. If Science is only limited to a certain aspect in life, then the world will not be advancing as much. The world has been developing at a much faster rate in the last decade than a few centuries combined. The main reason for this is due to the rapid development of scientific study in all kinds of disciplines, including the debated topic of religion, which birthed into a new stream of religion called the Protestants.
Mankind can be considered as the most curious creature with the highest intelligence in the world. Therefore, it is only natural for people to continuously ask many questions regarding the unknown, which is the moment when Science was actually born. Many scholars of the past started to conduct observation and experiment about many aspects of their lives. Hence, Science, if understood properly and put into its original relevance, can be the means to find the answer to everything.
